Well, that was a blast. Just got back from my first open mic night at Tony’s Mountain Pizza!
If you think a quiet mountain town means sleepy nights, you haven’t been to open mic at Tony’s Mountain Pizza in Silver Cliff, Colorado. Tucked beneath the towering Sangre de Cristos, this spot transforms into a stage for some of the most unexpected talent you’ll find above 7,900 feet.
The music? A mix of blues, rock, rockabilly, ballads, and pure mountain grit.
From heartfelt originals to raucous covers, the room echoed with rhythm and soul — the kind you only get when people play for the love of it.
I was able performed “One Dark Day in the Middle of the Night,” a smoky original based on an old rhyme my Padre taught me. Rod, who once played with Nine Inch Nails, added his edge to the night, while Janine kept the place tight and right with introductions to all and videos of the players. Also met Mike, Joe, Dwayne, Bob, and Stephanie too!
And of course, a big tip of the hat to Ryan, who hosted the evening like a pro.
In Westcliffe and Silver Cliff, the cattle roam — but so do the chords, verses, and voices. There’s more music up here than I'd ever expect!
This town rocks!
