If you’re lucky enough to be in Westcliffe or Silver Cliff this 4th of July, you’re in for a show — above and beyond.
🎇 Silver Cliff Fireworks — A Small-Town Spectacle with Big Heart
At dusk tonight (~8:59 PM), head over to Silver Cliff Park to catch one of the most beloved traditions in the Wet Mountain Valley: the Independence Day fireworks show.
This annual celebration brings out the whole town — locals, weekend wanderers, and city escapees alike — to watch the skies come alive over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Expect a small-town charm kind of magic: families on blankets, kids with glow sticks, the boom of fireworks echoing across the valley.
🕗 When: Fireworks start between 9 and 10 PM, after sunset
📍 Where: Silver Cliff Community Park, 957 French St, Silver Cliff, CO

🌌 Stay After for the Real Show: Dark Skies Stargazing
Once the fireworks fade, the galaxy show begins. Silver Cliff and Westcliffe are proud International Dark Sky Communities — one of the darkest and clearest places in North America to view the stars.
Tonight, after the grand finale, hang back or head up to one of these top stargazing spots:
🔭 Smokey Jack Observatory (SJO) at The Bluff
Home to high-powered telescopes and Electronic Assisted Astronomy (EAA)
Stargazing events often hosted here — check darkskiescolorado.org
🌠 Lake DeWeese Recreation Area
Just north of town; reflections of stars on the water are breathtaking
🌄 Hermit Road Overlooks
Western views with zero light pollution. Great for astrophotography.
🌿 The Bluff Park
Walkable from downtown Westcliffe. Bring a blanket and look up.
✨ Insider Tip:
88% of people on Earth can’t see the Milky Way from their homes — but here, in the heart of the Rockies, you absolutely can. That’s worth staying up for. 😌
