Last night, I stepped onto the stage at the KC Blues & Jazz Juke House, right in the soul-soaked heart of Kansas City’s 18th & Vine District. I’ve performed “Cadillac Woman” before — but never like this. At the Juke House, you get 1 song and 3 minutes with the house band. No practice. Just jam. That’s the magic of 18th & Vine. Come on down!
In a room where jazz was born, blues was baptized, and where the floorboards still hum with stories. Best of all - mi Madre filming. Epic night!
Mom had a lime 🍋🟩 margarita with salt. I had vodka cranberry 🍹. You can hear her howl out once or twice in the video. Gotta love that lady!
🎶 Why 18th & Vine Matters
To stand onstage in the 18th & Vine District is to stand on sacred ground. 🎷 🎹 🎸
This isn’t just another street corner. This is where Charlie Parker blew minds. Where Count Basie, Big Joe Turner, and countless others changed music forever. 18th & Vine was the beating heart of the Kansas City Sound, where blues, jazz, and swing came alive in smoky clubs, loud kitchens, and long midnights.
The KC Blues & Jazz Juke House keeps that heartbeat going. And last night, I got to add my rusty old voice to the echo. You can too!
Best of All? Madre was there!
She’s the one who took the video — front row, steady hands, proud heart. She’s the one who filled our house with piano and singing growing up. I still listen to her practices before she dashes off to play in the name of the Lord every Sunday. That foundation — shaped my joy of music.
To have her there, watching me make my noise, at this place, was full-circle in a way I didn’t expect.

Deep City Jazz and Soul 💥
Live jazz and blues music the way it was back in the 1920's — loud, loose, and straight from the street.
The night ended the way a good blues set should: a few drinks, a full heart, and a room still buzzing after the last chord.
To the Juke House crew, the monster musicians on that stage, and to my mom — thank you. “Cadillac Woman” rode a little higher last night, and I’ll carry that vibe with me for life.
